For 150 years the Stanton's have
always been on Wolf Mountain, even before Montana was a state. Now times have
changed, they're still there but selling horses isn't so easy anymore and with
400,000 acres of land and 20,000 horses to worry about every penny counts.
Sitting in their mountain valley they've overlooked the town of Gold Springs
before it was even named for the gold it pulled out of the ground and now the
rock they've always counted on is in trouble too.
Gold Springs

Within weeks of the discovery of gold in the sleepy town of Gold Springs
during the summer of 1876, it blossomed over night as gold money poured in.
Victorian houses fill the streets, with little of the older settlement
remaining after a fire took the original downtown in 1889. The current main
street was built then with local reddish stone to prevent such a
conflagration again.
While the downtown is filled with
outstanding architecture, there is really nothing to keep you in this
rundown mining town. Passing through I kept looking for a restaurant, really
for anything to slow my visit, but sadly after half an hour I gave up in
defeat. The hospital (500 Main Street) housed in a wonderful
sandstone building along with a more modern addition is probably the only
one in the state to be specialist in smashing accidents, in all else it is a
sad case.
If you really have to stay, there is a
sadly neglected museum (25 Main St.) that gives way too much credence
to the last twenty years, in other words the last owner. The true history
was relegated to a small room in the basement. Eddie Mae’s (407 Main
St.) the only real option for food other than a rather tasteless pizza
joint, held enough grease in my one regretful meal to take five years off my
life. The only faint bright spot is the Inn Between well outside town
(Highway 145 10 miles from town North) and it seems to stay busy on the
physical assets of its owner not the food. She is noteworthy for the large
tattoo peeking over the back of her clothes and for the large amount of
breast she shows around the side of her clothes.
Considering the town is home to one of
the oldest and deepest gold mines in the country no amount of begging or
bribery can get a tour of the facilities. I’ve heard rumor that the old
Grand Hotel was once one of the most regal in the state but it too remains
closed, along with the Opera House. The list is too long to continue. Gold
Springs is dying even if it doesn’t admit it to itself. One day soon it will
all look as the surrounding area does, decaying hulks of the gold rush that
had filled the area and mobile homes, the palaces of ingenuity, as they try
to eek out a living when nothing is there.

nature is soon revealed.
Everyone on the train knows she hides a secret behind
the wild eyes of a wolf, but John alone is able to figure out what that
secret is. The wolf is her true self far more than the angel many
think. In helping Elizabeth deal with the past she is fighting John
